Forest Service may charge fees for use of cabins near Del Norte

DEL NORTE — The U.S. Forest Service is considering charging $25 per night for people to use two historic cabins that were recently restored.

The agency says the proposed rental fees for Off Cow Camp and Fitton Guard Station would be used largely for operation and maintenance of the cabins.

Each cabin sleeps up to four people. Both sit at about 10,500 feet, in a meadow below Bennett Peak, about fourteen miles south of Del Norte.

The Forest Service is asking people to submit comments on the fee proposal by Sept. 15.
