Former caretaker sentenced for negligence

BOULDER — A former caretaker at an assisted living center in Boulder has been given a two-year deferred sentenced after a resident suffered extensive injuries while her foot was soaking in hot water.

The Daily Camera reports (http://bit.ly/1h9rdpB ) 24-year-old Marlena Macarthur, who worked at Anam Chara, was sentenced Friday after pleading guilty to negligence causing serious bodily injury to an at-risk adult, a felony. Macarthur also must perform 240 hours of community service and won’t be allowed to be a caretaker during her sentence.

Prosecutors say a resident with a lack of sensation in her feet was given a tub of hot water to soak her feet in and then was left unsupervised by Macarthur in May. When the caretaker returned 15 to 20 minutes later, the woman’s foot had been so badly burned the skin was peeling off.
