Forsberg’s return held up by red tape

PHOENIX — Peter Forsberg has joined the Colorado Avalanche on the road. When the former NHL MVP plays will depend on how quickly he can clear up a few immigration issues.

Forsberg signed with Colorado for the rest of the season on Sunday and was with the team for its morning skate today, but wasn’t expected to play against the Phoenix Coyotes later that night. Forsberg said he had to leave the country to clear up his immigration status, but feels healthy enough to play once it is completed.

The 2003 league MVP, Forsberg hasn’t played in the NHL since 2003 due to injuries. The 37-year-old played the last couple of seasons with MoDo in his native Sweden and started practicing with the Avalanche two weeks ago in hopes of making a comeback.
