Fort Lewis College taps Dubai alumni for funding

DURANGO — Fort Lewis College is asking alumni in Dubai for contributions to the school budget.

College president Dene Kay Thomas visited the United Arab Emirates recently for a fund-raiser, hoping to add to the $2 million in donations the college drummed up around the world last year.

According to the Durango Herald, the exotic locale underscores the extent to which things have changed for publicly funded colleges. Educators say they are increasingly turning to private donations because of the lack of reliable public financing.
