Four injured after police car stolen, crashed

SOUTH SALT LAKE, Utah – Four people are seriously injured after a man stole a South Salt Lake police car and led authorities on a high-speed chase.

South Salt Lake police spokesman Gary Keller tells The Salt Lake Tribune (http://bit.ly/TrkbGi) an officer was walking to his cruiser at a gas station parking lot about 3 a.m. Sunday when he used a keyless remote to unlock the door.

Keller says the officer didn’t notice a 20-year-old Arizona man standing nearby. He says the man jumped into the vehicle and was able to drive off because keys were in the ignition.

Nearby officers chased the car before it plowed into a Mitsubishi Eclipse waiting at a red light and a Volkswagen in the intersection.

Police say the suspect and three people in the cars were injured.
