UPDATED: Free food for furloughed feds at Colo. restaurant

COLORADO SPRINGS — Federal workers left without a paycheck are getting a free meal at a Colorado Springs restaurant.

Poor Richard’s is offering the deal to government employees with appropriate ID.

The restaurant’s chief operating officer, Laszlo Palos (LAZ’-loh PAL’-ohs), says about 80 people had taken advantage of the offer through today, including furloughed employees and their families.

The Colorado Springs Gazette first reported the offer.

Palos says he hopes other restaurants will make a similar offer if the furloughs last past the weekend.

The federal government furloughed thousands of employees starting Tuesday when Congress failed to approve funding for most operations.
