Freeze warning in effect tonight

A late-season freeze warning is in effect tonight and early Tuesday morning for the lower elevations of western and southwestern Colorado, including the Grand Valley, giving farmers and orchardists another night of nervousness.

The warning is in effect from midnight until 9 a.m. Tuesday. Temperatures are expected to drop into the upper 20s and lower 30s, potentially damaging buds on blossoming trees and tender plants, according to the National Weather Service.

Forecasters are officially calling for a low of 31 degrees in Grand Junction.

Temperatures will gradually warm the rest of the week, with Grand Junction’s high possibly reaching 80 degrees by Friday.
