Front Range librarian to take Mesa County post

The former director of the Red Rocks Community College Library in Lakewood has been selected as the new director for Mesa County Libraries.

Joseph Sanchez served as library and learning resources director at Red Rocks Community College from 2006 to 2011.

Sanchez will take over the $87,000-a-year post at a time to be determined. The current Mesa County Libraries director, Eve Tallman, will retire in August.

At the Red Rocks Community College library, Sanchez managed an urban academic library with a diverse base of patrons. Since then, he has led a team of employees responsible for multimedia content production at Auraria Library in Denver.

Sanchez holds a master’s degree in library and information science from San Jose State University and a bachelor’s degree in history from California State University San Marcos. He is a nationally recognized leader on ebooks, e-content, technology, and intellectual property in public libraries.

“Joseph brings an exciting dynamic to our organization. We are very enthusiastic about our direction for the future and with his appointment as our new director,” said Barry Blanchard, president of the Mesa County Public Library District board of trustees.
