Legacy softball stops Fruita win streak, ends season
Legacy rallied from an early 2-0 deficit to defeat Fruita Monument 7-2 in the quarterfinals of the Class 5A State Softball Tournament at Aurora Sports Park.
The Lightning (22-2) snapped Fruita’s 12-game winning streak and advance to the semifinals and are two wins away from a fifth consecutive state title while Fruita is eliminated.
The Wildcats (19-4) scored one run in the bottom of the seventh inning to defeat Ralston Valley 7-6 in the first round.
Montrose (13-10) hung with No. 2 seed Pueblo South (21-1) in the Class 4A tournament before the Colts prevailed 1-0.
In Class 3A, Holy Family (18-4) ended Rifle’s season 26-5 and Gunnison (16-4) reached the quarterfinals before losing to Rocky Ford.
