Fruita man suspect in child assault
A Fruita man was arrested Thursday on suspicion of sexually assaulting a child, according to the Mesa County Sheriff’s Department.
James David Andregg Jr., 35, was arrested after the child worked with investigators to call Andregg, who confirmed the abuse, according to an arrest affidavit.
Andregg told the child during the phone call, which was recorded, that he must have molested the child if the child said he did, but Andregg said he could not remember his actions because he was intoxicated, the affidavit said.
As the recording continued, Andregg said he couldn’t live with himself if he molested the child.
Deputies said they could hear Andregg loading bullets into the magazine of a rifle, and he told the child at one point that he had a rifle. Deputies then went to Andregg’s Fruita home and arrested him.
Andregg told deputies during an interview at the Mesa County Sheriff’s Department that he molested the child, but while he was in a dream-like state, the affidavit said. Andregg said he had drunk six to 10 beers and he could not remember exactly what happened, the affidavit said.
