Game 9: Spartanburg Methodist 17, Connors State 0

Top-ranked Spartanburg (S.C.) Methodist College continued its run-scoring barrage today, peppering five Connors State (Okla.) College pitchers for 16 runs in a 17-0 victory in the Alpine Bank Junior College World Series.

John Leopard went 4 for 4 and drove in five runs for the Pioneers, who play Neosho County (Kan.) Community College at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Six consecutive base hits to left field and seven overall in the first inning produced a 6-0 lead against the No. 3 Cowboys, who play Cochise (Ariz.) at 11 this morning in an elimination game. Spartanburg scored in every inning, and pitcher Jimmy Lindberg held the top-hitting team in the tournament to only three base hits, two in the first inning.
