GJ Council asks city manager Kadrich to step down

Members of the Grand Junction City Council have asked City Manager Laurie Kadrich to resign.

Kadrich, who has served in the city’s top position for the past five years, had a different style of management than current council members wanted, according to Mayor Tom Kenyon.

“Some (council members) wanted to be more directly involved in the day-to-day operations and information, and we just weren’t able to bridge that gap,” Kenyon said.

Council members met in executive session Wednesday afternoon to talk about a performance evaluation for Kadrich. Council member Bill Pitts was absent from that meeting. Kenyon said council members did not vote, but took a consensus of council members who wanted Kadrich to resign.

Kadrich will receive a year’s worth of salary and benefits for her resignation. Kadrich’s salary is $153,338 this year.

Kadrich, in a news release, said there were “fundamental philosophical differences between me and City Council,” in providing a reason for her resignation.

Couldn’t the Good Ole Boys have waited until after the holidays???

The City Council clearly needs to bow out of micromanaging and arm chair quarterbacking operations of the City government.  They were elected to set broad based policy for the City, not to try and run the day to day operations like a bunch of amateurs.  Kadrich has struck me as being a top notch professional in her field and should have been left alone to do her job.  The citizens of Grand Junction are the ones getting the short end of the stick on this deal.  Politicans, don’t you just love them?
