GJ downtown business robbed at gunpoint
Grand Junction police are looking for a man who robbed Consign Design, 234 Main St., this afternoon at gunpoint.
At about 2:35 p.m., a black-haired man described as 30 to 40 years old, wearing a blue shirt, jeans and a backpack, entered the store and displayed a handgun, said Sgt. Lonnie Chavez of the Grand Junction Police Department.
The man demanded money from the store’s owner, who complied, and then he fled on foot, Chavez said. There were customers in the store at the time, but nobody was injured, he said. During initial police interviews, those at the scene reported smelling alcohol on the man, but police can’t confirm if he was intoxicated, Chavez said.
“We have some people pretty shaken up, but we do not believe there’s a danger (to people in the area),” Chavez said.
Police initially searched the area without success, Chavez said, and are looking at security camera footage from the nearby Springhill Suites and City Market to aid in the investigation.
Anyone with information should call 911 or 242-6707.
