GJ on the road for first round of Class 5A football playoffs

Grand Junction High School will go on the road to play a first-round game at Columbine in the Class 5A state football playoffs.

The Tigers received the 23rd seed and Columbine is seeded 10th. Both teams have 6-3 records. The day and time of the game were not set Sunday.

In Class 2A, Grand Valley 
(8-1) received the No. 5 seed and hosts 12th-seeded Middle Park (7-2). The Cardinals finished second in the 2A Western Conference with their lone loss to undefeated Bayfield, which drew the No. 3 seed and hosts No. 14 Trinidad (6-3). Days and times remain to be announced for the games.

In Class 1A, Western Slope Conference champion Cedaredge (8-1) drew the No. 3 seed and hosts No. 14 Centauri (7-2), and Hotchkiss (7-2) was seeded 10th and will go on the road to play No. 7 Wiggins (8-1). Days and times for their games are to be determined.

Cedaredge handed Hotchkiss its lone league loss, 21-20, and the Bulldogs’ other loss was to undefeated No. 1-seed Buena Vista, 18-15.

Fruita Monument did not make the 5A playoff field as the 37th-ranked team, but the Wildcats (4-5) get to host No. 38 Northglenn (2-7) in a Week 10 game. Day and time remain to be determined.

Classes 4A and 3A are playing Week 10 regular-season games this week. Their playoff brackets will be announced next week.
