GJ Rockies release 2013 schedule
Sunday home games will start later in the day next summer for the Grand Junction Rockies.
The second season for the Rookie affiliate of the Colorado Rockies opens at Suplizio Field on June 20. The Pioneer League released the 2013 schedule on Monday.
Grand Junction, which reached the Pioneer League playoffs last summer, host the Ogden Raptors, which won the 2012 South Division title, in a two-game series June 20 and 21 at Suplizio. The Rockies will have special opening day festivities and giveaways to fans at the season opener.
Grand Junction club officials decided to push Sunday games back two hours to a 4 p.m. first pitch to allow families to attend church services, and hope the weather cools off once the sun starts to set in the later innings. Games Monday through Saturday begin at 7:05 p.m.
After the quick two-game opening series, the club hits the road to Utah for six games, four at Orem and two at Ogden, before returning for a six-game homestand, again against the Utah clubs.
The GJ Rockies are at Idaho Falls on July 4, so the club will have its fireworks day on Sept. 1 as part of the Labor Day weekend. That Sunday game will begin at 6:30 p.m. Last summer’s fireworks game on Labor Day weekend drew the biggest crowd of the season.
The Rockies have a seven-game homestand in early July and an eight-game home series from Aug. 4-11 before heading to Montana for seven games.
Another lengthy homestand, starting with a three-game series against 2013 Pioneer League champion Missoula, is Aug. 21-27.
The 76-game season, played over 81 days (38 home games), concludes at home Sept. 8 against Ogden, the final game of a four-day home series.
Season tickets for the 2013 season are on sale at the Rockies front office at Suplizio Field, 1315 North Ave., or by calling 970-255-7625 (970-255-ROCK).
