Grand Junction man to get honorary degree from university

S.J. “Arch” Archuleta

A Grand Junction man today is to receive an honorary degree in the sciences from the University of Colorado in Boulder.

John “Arch” Archuleta attended CU on a wrestling scholarship and earned a degree in architectural engineering in 1961. He worked for more than 20 years at JVA Inc., an architectural-design firm, and founded a Colorado bank.

Archuleta has been instrumental in the university’s efforts to work with Western Slope towns and institutions, such as Mesa State College.

CU officials will confer the honorary degree on Archuleta again later this month in Grand Junction.
