Guard official: Montrose unit performing effectively in Afghanistan

MONTROSE — The Montrose National Guard 928th Area Support Medical Company was described as “a strong unit,” and the 85 members, mostly from the Western Slope, are performing their duties effectively in four separate locations across Afghanistan, providing care to thousands of combat soldiers.

Maj. Andrew Pollart delivered the short briefing to Montrose county, city and local civic leaders today at the National Guard Armory in Montrose.

Maj. Pollart said the unit is providing echelon 1 and echelon 2 levels of care, which involves anything from sick calls to stabilization of combat injuries.

According to Pollart the unit has seen 13,000 patients including soldiers and local Afghans.
