Helton headed to GJ
Colorado Rockies first baseman Todd Helton will be making a rehab start for the Grand Junction Rockies on Friday and Saturday, the Rookie club announced today.
Helton has been out with a right hip strain and is eligible to come off the disabled list July 25. Helton is hitting .235 with seven home runs and 34 RBI for the Rockies.
This is the second time recently Helton has had a rehab stint in Rookie baseball. In July of 2010 he went to Casper, Wyo., for three games, playing one game at first base and serving as the Ghosts’ designated hitter the other two. The Rockies have not said if Helton will DH or play first in Grand Junction. He will arrive in town Friday.
The Grand Junction Rockies play the Missoula Osprey on Friday and Saturday, and tickets for those games are on sale by calling 255-ROCK (255-7625). The box office at Suplizio Field opens at noon Friday and Saturday and gates open before each game at 4:30 p.m.
The Rockies are encouraging fans to purchase tickets in the afternoon and arrive at the park early to avoid long lines at the gate. The Rockies take batting practice from 4-5 p.m., so fans who do arrive early might catch a glimpse of Helton warming up.
