Hickenlooper speaking to Democrats in Charlotte

DENVER — It’s a big test for Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper. He’s addressing the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte, N.C., Wednesday evening.

Hickenlooper is one of a half-dozen Coloradans speaking at the convention. Interior Secretary Ken Salazar and Reps. Jared Polis and Diana DeGette were also invited to Charlotte to address Democrats.

Hickenlooper is one of the nation’s most popular governors, and his brief speech in Charlotte will give Democrats outside Colorado a chance to size him up.

It’s a big night for the governor, but not his first address to the Democratic National Convention. He also spoke briefly four years ago, when he was mayor of Denver and the convention was in Colorado’s capital city.

Former President Bill Clinton is the main speaker Wednesday in Charlotte.
