High winds close landfill; trash pickup delayed
Some Grand Junction residential and commercial trash customers won’t have their trash picked up until Thursday, as high winds forced the closure of the Mesa County Landfill this morning, leave trash trucks unable to empty their loads.
City officials said customers who trash was supposed to be collected today but wasn’t will have their trash picked up Thursday, along with Thursday’s regular route.
The city’s recycling service, Curbside Recycling Indefinitely, also shut down its operations off West Avenue today but should reopen Thursday morning.
Grand Junction and other areas of west-central Colorado are under a high wind warning until 9 p.m. tonight. Wind gusts of more than 60 mph are possible in advance of a cold front that will sweep into the state and drop temperatures into the 40s here in the valley. There’s also a good chance of rain forecast for tonight and Wednesday.
