Highway reopened after rockfall

The road through Plateau Canyon that guides visitors to the top of Grand Mesa is back open, after being closed for a stretch of days following a massive rockslide last week.

The website for tracking road closures and incidents statewide — cotrip.org — does not list Colorado Highway 65 on its list of closures. The Colorado Department of Transportation yesterday said that they expected to reopen the road Monday evening.

CDOT estimated that they’ve cleared more than 600 tons of rock debris from the slide site. The road itself suffered major damage, officials said, but crews have temporarily patched the road so traffic can resume on the road.

Check back for updates as they become available.
