Home burns quickly on Redlands

GRETEL DAUGHERTY/The Daily Sentinel—Grand Junction firefighters battle a blaze at 300 S. Redlands Road on Saturday evening. People who were inside the home escaped unharmed.

A Redlands home burned down in less than an hour Saturday evening at 300 S. Redlands Road.

The Grand Junction Fire Department received a report of a fire at the home at 6:21 p.m., Grand Junction Fire Department Battalion Chief John Williams said. Williams said all people who had been inside the house were out of the residence by the time firefighters arrived.

Williams said the blaze was “a defensive fire from the start” and he believed it to be a total loss. As of 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Williams said he did not know the cause or origin of the fire or how many people or pets were inside the home when the fire began.

The home at 300 S. Redlands Road was built in 1999 and is owned by Kirby and Natalie Gaines, according to the Mesa County Assessor’s website.
