Hotchkiss’ Head loses title match
You might call Jesse Head of Hotchkiss High School the dragon slayer. In his march to the state finals he took down some top-notch talent.
Head, however, was pinned in 3:59 by No. 4 ranked Andrew Register of The Classical Academy, in the championship match.
Head, a 138-pound senior, defeated returning state champion, top-seeded and No. 1 ranked Jared Mestas of Dolores Huerta in the quarterfinals and No. 3 ranked Joel Contreras of Sterling by way of a :36 pin in last night’s semifinals.
Head, who finished this season with a 26-6 record, qualified for the Colorado State Wrestling Championships for just the second time.
