House fire in Fruitvale may be total loss

A fire that broke out before noon today at 2937 Wellington Ave. in Fruitvale drew the attention of nearly all the resources of area fire departments, and the home appears to be a total loss.

No one was home at the time of the fire, according to officials, but firefighters were concerned about at least four pets that may have been in the house when the devastating fire broke out.

One dog that neighbors said lived in the home was safe, but the other animals were not immediately accounted for when firefighters eventually mopped up the fire around 12:45 p.m..

Fire officials said that the cause of the fire is under investigation, and that the fire appears to have begun in the back of the modest, single-family, one-story home.
