House destroyed by fire near Powderhorn Resort
Plateau Valley Fire Department firefighters said a cause wasn’t immediately known Wednesday morning for a fire that leveled a home near Mesa.
The two-story home, roughly one-half mile north of the Powderhorn Ski Resort turnoff on Colorado Highway 65, was completely involved with fire when crews arrived at the scene at 49195 E. Golden Drive, according to Plateau Valley Fire Chief Randy Leach.
Firefighters were dispatched at 7:09 a.m., and by 9:30 a.m., the charred remains of the home still were burning as firefighters watched the scene, long after suspending efforts to kill the fire.
The blaze gutted an outbuilding, while flames also licked the exterior of a propane tank roughly 20 feet from the home.
No injuries were reported, Leach said.
An older-model Chevrolet pickup, which was parked in the home’s driveway, was destroyed in the fire, he said.
The homeowner had been out of town for an unknown period of time, and the blaze was reported by a neighbor, according to Leach.
