Indiana man killed in crash on Douglas Pass

An Indiana man died on Monday after he lost control of his motorcycle on Douglas Pass, according to the Colorado State Patrol.

The man, who wasn’t immediately identified by authorities, was riding south on Colorado Highway 139 just before noon at milepost 32, when he apparently failed to negotiate a sharp right curve, according to State Trooper Greg Dokken.

Dokken said the man was thrown from his motorcycle, but the motorcycle continued into the northbound lane for nearly 45 feet and struck two oncoming motorcycles operated by two men from Germany.

The Indiana man was pronounced dead at the scene and the German men had minor injuries but refused treatment at the scene, according to a press release from the Colorado State Patrol. The injured men were identified as 67-year-old Helmut Schuhmann and Fritz Prell, 76.
