Fruitvale infant hospitalized after dog bite

The Mesa County Sheriff’s Department opened an investigation last night after an 8-month-old girl was bitten by a family dog in Fruitvale.

Deputies were called on a report of bite, which involved a pit bull dog, around 7 p.m. in the 500 block of Ronlin Street, the Sheriff’s Department said in a news release.

The girl and her mother were transported to St. Mary’s Hospital, while Mesa County Animal Services took custody of the dog.

The infant’s condition was unknown, the release said.
