Iowa Western reaches JUCO

Iowa Western, the top-ranked team in the country, needed two games to win the Northern District championship today and qualify for the Alpine Bank Junior College World Series.

The Reivers, who won the 2010 national championship, lost the first game to John A. Logan (Ill.) 11-8, then got a complete-game pitching performance from Andy Roberts for a 9-0 win in the deciding game. Iowa Western (57-5) returns to Grand Junction for the sixth straight year and has qualified for JUCO in seven of the past eight years.

In the South Central District, a lightning delay in Hillsboro, Mo., turned into a rainout with Jefferson College and Eastern Oklahoma tied 2-2 in the top of the 10th inning. The game will be completed at noon (MDT) Monday.

Middle Georgia College forced a second championship game in the East Central District with a 12-2 win over Gordon College. They’ll play a winner-take-all game at 11 a.m. (MDT) today.
