January unemployment higher than any time in 2009 in GJ
Seasonally adjusted unemployment climbed to 9.4 percent in January in Mesa County, according to figures released today by the Colorado Department of Labor and Employment.
In 2009, local unemployment peaked at 9.1 percent in July. The percentage of people in the county seeking employment decreased each month from then on until December, when unemployment reached 8.9 percent.
In January, 7,400 people in Mesa County were unemployed, up from 7,100 in December. Employment also increased in that time period, going from 71,900 to 72,200.
