JUCO: Cochise wins pitching duel, eliminates Connors State

Two days after losing a pitching duel, Cochise (Ariz.) College came out on the winning end of one.

The Apaches won their 50th game of the season and remained alive in the Alpine Bank Junior College World Series, defeating Connors State (Okla.) College 3-1 in an elimination game today.

Left-hander Steven Naemark threw a complete game for the Apaches (50-18), scattering eight hits. The only run he allowed was a solo home run in the fourth inning.

Meanwhile, Connors State starter Daniel Concepcion struggled in the first two innings, allowing a run in each, then settled down in the middle innings and struck out five batters in the fourth and fifth innings to finish with seven strikeouts. He allowed only five hits, but walked three and hit two batters.

The Cowboys (53-11) won their opener Saturday at JUCO but dropped their next two games and were eliminated from the tourney today.
