JUCO: Palm Beach rallies past, eliminates Navarro

Relief pitcher Jose Lazaro shut down the hot bats of Navarro (Texas) College, allowing Palm Beach State (Fla.) College to rally past the Bulldogs in 10 innings in an elimination game today at the Alpine Bank Junior College World Series.

The Panthers scored six runs in the top of the 10th inning to win 15-9 after falling behind 9-6 in the bottom of the sixth when Byron Reichstein’s three-run home run staked Navarro to a 9-6 lead.

Lazaro entered the game following Reichstein’s blast off the Suplizio Field scoreboard and pitched 4 1/3 scoreless innings that included six strikeouts, four of them on called-third strikes, and five of them in the last two innings. He allowed just one of the Bulldogs’ 15 hits.

Ryan Church led the Panthers’ 21-hit attack by going 5 for 5 with four runs batted in, including the game-winning run in the 10th.
