Judge refuses to lower $10 million bond

BOULDER — A Boulder County judge is refusing to reduce a $10 million bond for a Longmont man accused of attempted first-degree murder in a May shootout with a Longmont police officer.

Jonathan Shank was hospitalized with three gunshot wounds after the May 22 shooting. He appeared in court Tuesday for a hearing.

According to the Longmont Times-Call, Shank is paralyzed on the left side of his face, cannot blink and cannot swallow.

Longmont police officer Brent Cairns was not struck during an exchange of 35 shots after Shank was stopped for a traffic infraction.
