RSSJunction, Fruita, Palisade in football playoff hunt
Grand Junction and Fruita Monument would each make the Class 5A state football playoffs if it started this weekend.
The Colorado High School Activities Association released the first wildcard points standings that determine seeds for the playoffs today. The standings will be released each week until the end of the regular season when CHSAA will announce the official playoff pairings.
If the state football playoffs were to begin this weekend, Grand Junction (6-0) would be the No. 2 seed and host a first-round playoff game while Fruita Monument (3-3) would get the last playoff spot and play at top-seed Ralston Valley (6-0). Central (1-5) would get a final home game against Montbello (1-5). The 5A playoffs begin the weekend of Nov. 4-5.
Palisade (5-1) would get the No. 8 seed in the Class 3A playoffs and would host the No. 9 seed, which is Battle Mountain, but the CHSAA football committee would re-seed the teams so conference opponents don’t play each other in the first round. Rifle (6-0) is fifth in the wildcard points. The seven conference champions will get a top eight seed and host a first round playoff game the weekend of Nov. 11-12.
Montrose (6-0) is eighth in the Class 4A wildcard points standings and would host a playoff game if it stays in the top eight. The Indians would host Widefield (5-1) if the playoffs started this weekend. The 4A playoffs begin Nov. 11-12.
In Class 2A, Aspen is third in the wildcard points and would host a playoff game. Each of the six conference champions would host a first-round playoff game the weekend of Nov. 11-12. Coal Ridge is 18th and Olathe is 24th in the wildcard points and would not make the playoffs if they began this weekend.
