Kachin’s late goal helps Palisade stop 3-game slide

Audrey Rose Kachin scored in the 73rd minute Saturday to lift Palisade to a 2-1 victory over Montezuma-Cortez, snapping a three-game skid for the Bulldogs.

Ally Kissell opened the scoring for Palisade (8-3, 7-2 4A Western Slope League), converting an assist from Cruz Maestas in the 38th minute. The Panthers tied the game in the 50th minute, before Kachin scored the winner.

Palisade outshot Montezuma-Cortez 20-7, with the Bulldogs’ Katie Dunn making six saves.


Montrose’s 14-game winning streak came to an end as the Class 4A Indians, ranked No. 1 this week by The Denver Post, fell 5-4 to No. 8 Valor Christian.

Montrose took a 3-0 lead into the fifth inning. but the Eagles scored four runs in the top of the inning to take the lead. Montrose tied the game in the sixth, but Valor Christian scored the winning run in the top of the seventh inning.

Olathe 10-10, Coal Ridge 3-3: Trenton Jole, Mario Hightower and Andrew Hawk combined for 12 hits as the Pirates swept a doubleheader from the Titans.

Jole and Hawk each went 2 for 4 with a double in the first game. Olathe put the game out of reach with a six-run fifth inning. Hightower went 2 for 3 with a double in the win. Bryan Len and Calvin Corey combined for 13 strikeouts, limiting Coal Ridge to three hits in the victory.

In the second game, Jole added another double among his two hits and also did his part on the mound, striking out four in 
5 2/3 innings to get the win. Hightower was 2 for 4 with a double and Hawk went 2 for 3 with a double for the Pirates.
