Koch formally charged in Delta toddler’s death
DELTA — A man accused of killing a Delta toddler was charged formally Wednesday with child abuse resulting in death.
Lukus Koch, 28, was charged in the death of 2-year-old Jesse Dorsch, who died after a Nov. 27 incident at a home in Delta County. Medical records detail the child suffered massive internal hemorrhaging in what the medical examiner described as “a classic case of child abuse.”
Koch told investigators he was playing with Jesse on the afternoon of Nov. 27 after the child’s mother left the home to run errands. Koch said he threw Jesse into a couch multiple times, describing the action as a game the two often played. Hours later the child was rushed to the Delta County Memorial Hospital, unresponsive and pale.
The hospital staff alerted authorities, which began a lengthy investigation resulting in Koch’s arrest Jan. 13. Koch remains in jail on a $150,000 bond. He is to return to court at 3 p.m. Feb. 2.
