Loads of country stars to be at Rifle’s Westfest Aug. 13-15
An all-star country music lineup and Cowboy Camp are just a few of the wild West aspects of Westfest, taking place Aug. 10–15 in Rifle.
Concerts featuring Michael Martin Murphey, Craig Morgan, Patty Loveless, James Otto, Trailer Choir, James Burton and others are set for Friday through Sunday, Aug. 13–15, at the Garfield County Fairgrounds. Prior to the concerts, the public is invited to join Murphey for horseback rides and an overnight camp Tuesday and Wednesday, Aug. 10–11, at Porter Ranch.
A half-day ride will be followed by a cooked dinner and evening around the campfire with accommodations in range tents with cots and a cooked breakfast, followed by an all day ride with lunch on the trail.
Additional breakfast rides will be offered Thursday through Sunday. For information on costs of the horseback rides and camps, or to make reservations, call 984-2068 or go to http://www.porterranch.net.
During Westfest, visitors also can celebrate the West by visiting an array of different villages, each complete with characters true to the culture and era of the Old West. There will be a village focusing on Native American culture and art, and a mountain man rendezvous camp set in the 1820–‘40s American frontier.
New to the festival this year is Outback Outdoors Exhibition with hunting star Trevon Stoltzfus.
Tickets to Westfest are available at Murdoch’s Ranch and Home Supply in Clifton or Western Slope Trailer Sales in Rifle. For more information, a list of vendors, attractions and the concert schedule, go to http://www.westfest.us.
