Loss up to $30K in hay blaze on 22 Road

A captain with the Lower Valley Fire Department said today a loss was estimated between $20,000 to $30,000 after an overnight fire destroyed roughly 240 stacked bales of hay, which was expected to continue burning through this afternoon.

Lower Valley Capt. Gene Holder said they were dispatched around 11:45 p.m. Wednesday on a reported structure fire involving stacked hay bales at 1050 22 Road. Holder said a decision was made to let the fire burn through the night because no structures were threatened, while a skeletal crew remained until morning to tend to the fire.

Holder said they expected to have the fire out by this afternoon.

The cause hasn’t been determined, he said.
