Maes blames corruption for Kansas police firing
LIBERAL, Kan. — Colorado GOP gubernatorial candidate Dan Maes told supporters he was fired by a Kansas police department because of corruption. But the Liberal Police Department is refusing to discuss the matter.
Maes posted a letter on his website about his experience as a police officer in the 1980s but later removed it. He said he was placed undercover to gather information about a bookmaking ring that was also allegedly selling drugs.
In a story today, The Denver Post quotes Maes as saying “those comments might have been incorrect comments.” He didn’t elaborate, but his spokesman, Nate Strauch, says Maes isn’t backing away from his account.
Strauch said Maes had some information about the gambling operation and worked with Kansas Bureau of Investigation agents.
