Man accused in bar beating death pleads guilty
A 27-year-old man accused in the beating death of another man outside a downtown Grand Junction bar last fall has pleaded guilty in the case.
Sahr Benjamin Mbawa previously pleaded not guilty in the November incident in which Richard Lee Martinez, 32, was beaten to death.
Term’s of Mbawa’s agreement include a mandatory 32 years in prison to be followed by parole. Mbawa is being prosecuted as a habitual criminal and has three other drug-related felony convictions on his record.
Mbawa pleaded guilty today to felony charges of reckless manslaughter, second degree assault and three-sentence enhancing charges for the prior felony convictions.
