Man arrested, accused of multiple break-ins near CMU

Garrett Austin

Grand Junction police found 22-year-old Garrett Austin this morning in the front seat of a car believed to have been broken into in a parking lot at 900 Glenwood Avenue, and they believe he is potentially responsible for at least 16 other vehicle break-ins.

Austin could not tell officers who the car in which he was sitting was registered to, according to police. He was also allegedly found with a backpack full of tools and a drill, and his pockets were allegedly full of likely loot.

He’s accused of felony first-degree criminal trespass of autos and misdemeanor theft, and also a weapons charge.

If you believe you are a victim in this case, police hope you’ll call 242-6707 to report it.
