Man dead after incident in Rifle

A Rifle man died early this morning after an incident in downtown Rifle.

The Garfield County Sheriff’s Office said the death occurred after Rifle police responded to a call of a man in distress at Third Street and Railroad Avenue.

Anthony Green was screaming when police arrived and had minor facial abrasions but no apparent major injuries, the sheriff’s office said. He then became non-responsive, and an ambulance was called and CPR was begun. Green was taken to Grand River Hospital in Rifle and was pronounced dead at 1:15 a.m.

The Garfield County Coroner’s Office said the cause of death is still under investigation.
