Man dies in climbing accident in Boulder Canyon

BOULDER — Boulder County sheriff’s officials say a 28-year-old man has died after falling an estimated 70 feet in Boulder Canyon onto the roadway below.

The Daily Camera reports the man fell from atop the Boulderado rock formation while attempting to secure a rope for other climbers Sunday afternoon. His name wasn’t immediately released.

Rescue crews also helped an injured hiker in Boulder County on Sunday. Sheriff’s Sgt. Lance Enholm says a 50-year-old man who fell about 30 feet while scrambling over difficult terrain in the Dream Canyon area sustained compound fractures to both legs. He was flown to a Denver hospital.
