Man killed in fiery rollover near Rifle
A 57-year-old Empire man died early this morning in a fiery single-vehicle rollover crash east of Rifle on Interstate 70.
The Colorado State Patrol says the man was driving a 2001 Chevy S-10 pickup that went out of control on eastbound I-70 near mile marker 86. The vehicle went off the right side of the road and rolled, ejecting him, and became engulfed in flames.
The man died on the scene. He was the only occupant of the vehicle.
The accident occurred shortly before 1 a.m. It remains under investigation, and the State Patrol didn’t release the victim’s name.
