Man shot by police in Fort Collins ID’d

FORT COLLINS — Authorities have released the name of a man who was shot by police outside a Fort Collins hospital.

Police say 53-year-old Richard Ivey of Fort Collins was shot and critically wounded when he confronted an officer with a knife in the parking lot of the Poudre Valley Hospital on Thursday morning. No one else was injured.

The Coloradoan reports Ivey does not appear to have a recent criminal history. The most recent Larimer County court case involving the man dates to a 2000 misdemeanor assault case.

The officer who fired at Ivey has been placed on paid administrative leave, which is standard protocol when officers are involved in shootings.
