Man dies after falling from raft in Eagle County
A 66-year-old man died Wednesday morning after falling from a raft while going through rapids on the Eagle River in Dowd Junction in Eagle County.
The body of Patrick Bush of Birmingham, Ala., was recovered just before noon.
An autopsy is pending, and the cause of death remains under investigation, the Eagle County Sheriff’s Department said in a news release.
Bush was rafting with Lakota Guides. His raft was piloted by an experienced guide, and a safety boater was following the raft for extra safety, the Sheriff’s Department said. Everyone on the raft wore a helmet, life jacket, wet suit and booties, the Sheriff’s Department said.
“Everything points to this being a tragic accident,” Sheriff Joseph Hoy said in the news release. “Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family of the victim.”
On June 5, Aspen resident William Spang, 48, died in the same area while on a private rafting trip with friends.
