Man pleads guilty to attempted murder in 2009 shooting

A plea agreement formalized this morning calls for a prison term between 16 and 36 years for a man who shot two people on Orchard Mesa last spring.

Tommy Lee Perez, 26, of Rifle, pleaded guilty to attempted murder, and a sentence-enhancing crime of violence charge related to a brawl that ended with gunfire at 297 Boston Lane on the night of May 22, 2009.

Perez will be sentenced next month. The terms of his plea agreement leaves the length of the prison sentence open for District Judge Thomas Deister.

According to an arrest affidavit, Mesa County Sheriff’s deputies on May 22 found two men lying in the doorway and driveway at 297 Boston Lane. Anthony Garcia, 36 at the time, had been shot twice in the thigh and another man, Clinton Waters, then 22, had been shot three times in the stomach.
