Man taken to secluded area outside Montrose, threatened, affidavit alleges

ANDREW WILLIAMS JR.: Free on $60,000 bond in July 6 incident

MONTROSE — A Montrose man faces charges including felony kidnapping and impersonating a police officer after allegations that he threatened to kill a man last week.

Andrew Williams Jr., 28, is free on $60,000 bond after the incident in the early morning hours of July 6. Williams returns to court Aug. 3.

His accuser told a police officer on July 8 that Williams threatened to kill him after forcing him at gunpoint into a car near the rear entrance of a Montrose bar, according to an arrest affidavit. The man told police Williams showed him a badge in addition to the gun.

The man told investigators Williams drove him to a residence, and when no one answered the door, he continued to drive to a secluded area away from town.

The man said Williams forced him out of the car, turned off the headlights and made the victim kneel in a praying position, the affidavit said. He told officers Williams threatened to kill him several times and shouted obscenities while the pleaded with Williams, telling him he was a single father with two kids.

The man told investigators the assault went on for two hours and he was struck in the forehead with what he thought was the butt of the gun.

The man said he was forced back into the car and driven back downtown and released at the intersection of Main Street and Cascade Avenue. He said Williams told him to get out of the car and said, “If you tell anyone … I will kill your children,” according to the affidavit.

The man told investigators he has lived in the Montrose area for nine months and only visited the bar twice.

Williams was arrested on suspicion of second-degree kidnapping, second-degree assault, felony menacing and impersonating a police officer.
