Mesa State’s season ends in semifinals

Michael Dominguez scored a career-high 41 points, but it wasn’t enough for the Mesa State College men’s basketball team, which didn’t get the balance it needed, falling 95-84 to Augustana in the semifinals of the NCAA Division II Central Region tournament in Mankato, Minn.

Augustana’s offensive rebounding and a defensive adjustment against Dominguez in the second half made the difference. The Vikings sent a variety of players after Dominguez in the second half, double-teaming him whenever he got the ball, and got numerous second-chance baskets. Augustana (24-6) grabbed 19 offensive rebounds and scored 18 points on second-chance efforts.

Mesa State’s best season in Division II ended 23-6.
