Mavericks outlast rain delay, Mankato
Scoring four runs right after a nine-hour rain delay, the Mesa State College baseball team downed Minnesota State-Mankato tonight to stay alive in the NCAA Division II Central Region tournament 7-4.
Taylor Hamilton came on in relief of Dylan Evans to throw 1 2/3 innings of stellar relief, getting Jeremy Sudbeck on a called third strike to end the game. Evans, who started the game this morning, pitched 7 1/3 innings, striking out nine even though he went nine hours between innings.
The Mavericks (35-20) plays today, tentatively at 2:30 p.m. (MDT) against an opponent to be determined. Still to play tonight are St. Cloud and Winona State in an elimination game. That winner plays Nebraska-Kearney, the only undefeated team in the tournament.
