Mavericks split softball DH with Fort Lewis

Colorado Mesa and Fort Lewis combined for 30 runs and 38 hits to split a RMAC softball doubleheader Thursday in Durango.

Fort Lewis defeated the Mavericks 12-5 in the second game. Mesa won the first game 12-1 in five innings.

Mesa (11-9, 9-7 RMAC) scored six runs in the top of the first inning of the first game and never looked back.

Mesa pitcher Courtney Maihi (7-5) gave up two hits, two walks and struck out two for the win.

Shannon McClenahan was 2 for 3 with four RBI. Lisa Pille was 2 for 4 with two RBI and Megan Smith was 3 for 3 with two RBI.

Fort Lewis (14-11, 12-4 RMAC) responded in Game 2 of the doubleheader with 12 runs on 15 hits.


Colorado Mesa got off to a good start and held on for a 12-8 victory over Florida Institute of Technology in Melbourne, Fla.

Austin Pridham scored three goals to lead the Mesa men. Kade Robinson scored two goals and had one assist. James Sharp scored two goals.

Women: Millersville (Pa.) University defeated the Mavericks 19-6 in a non-league game Thursday in Columbus, Ohio.

Swimming & Diving

Brock Martin took seventh place in the NCAA Division II national championship 1-meter diving finals to earn All-America honors for the second consecutive year.

The sophomore from Evantson, Wyo., scored 482.70 points in the finals.

Alejandro Hernandez placed 21st in the 400-yard individual medley in 4:06.47. The sophomore was seeded 12th entering the event with a qualifying time of 3:59.53.

Kelly Hogan took 43rd in the women’s 200 freestyle in 1:56.49. The junior was seeded 15th (1:52.04).

The Mesa men is 20th with 12 points. The Mesa women are 28th with four points.
